Cremation options also include in-ground burial or scattering of cremated remains in reserved areas of our manicured gardens.

History

Mausoleum at Roselawn Funeral Home & Memorial GardensBrothers Edwin and Dayton Phillips created Roselawn Memorial Gardens to serve a growing population between Murfreesboro and Smyrna. In the 1950s, the City of Murfreesboro owned a cemetery within the city limits; several private families and churches owned cemeteries as well.

Just below their newly purchased land, Rutherford County’s legendary limestone rock proved a challenge for routine burial. Rather than rely on explosives to loosen the soil, the brothers undertook an impressive ground rock removal project, eliminating the need for explosives to make room for 6 feet of topsoil.

They built a modest-size mausoleum to gauge their neighbors’ receptiveness to above-ground burial. The community liked it, and the mausoleum was soon expanded to include an informal chapel for committal services.

In May 2014, Roselawn Memorial Gardens completed the vision of Edwin and Dayton by building a funeral home on the cemetery grounds. Roselawn Funeral Home comfortably accommodates the families of Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee. Several cemetery gardens are within walking distance of the funeral home, allowing for a horse-drawn carriage processional, bicycle escorts for a funeral coach or ceremonial peace walks to a final resting place.
